Golden Eggs

RLF has 236 new residents. We recently received 200 adorable chicks and 36 hens! Chickens are a great part of the farm. They are eating, growing and getting into trouble currently, but soon they will be working alongside us and providing products. Chickens improve the soil, eat tics and provide eggs! If you have ever eaten or used a pasture-raised egg, you know the difference! The beautiful, golden yolk is evidence of the nutrient density plus they taste great and make a better batter.

These chickens are going to have a great life, pecking and scratching in the field while the sun shines and sheltering in their cozy Egg Mobile at night. They will get moved to a fresh part of the pasture every day, giving them a great variety of tasty plants and bugs. They will have lots of elbow room and won’t pass diseases to each other, so they won’t need antibiotics to keep them healthy. All of these things that make for happy chickens also make for better tasting, more nutritious eggs for us and our customers!

You can feel great about choosing pasture-raised eggs. A varied diet and the absence of antibiotics and harmful chemicals make the eggs much more nutritious and beneficial than factory raised eggs. Now more than ever, buying local food is a smart move. You get a reliable source of nutrient dense food. Plus, by supporting local farmers you keep dollars in our community and help the farmers build infrastructure to make our community self sufficient.

Our chickens are a handful, but lots of fun! All of the care we lavish on them while they are young will be repaid tenfold when they grow up and start laying eggs! Those noisy, curious, little chicks could help feed our whole community this summer!
