Somebody should do something

Have you ever noticed that your Mom’s mac and cheese tastes better than anybody else’s, even though it’s the same recipe? It’s because food made with love carries the energy and intentions of the person who made it. There is power in what we choose to do with our energy. In fact, choosing where to direct our energy is the only power we have to change the world.

We can all agree that there are a lot of problems in the world. But some folks seem to use most of their energy to push against or even just talk about the problems. Complaining and condemning on social media doesn’t accomplish much besides making for a tense Thanksgiving. Compare that to acting as Gandhi suggested: ‘Be the change that you wish to see in the world.’ It is so much more empowering and satisfying to build towards what you want than to try to tear down what you don’t want.

It’s easier than you think. At RLF, we want to change the way humans raise food and steward the earth’s soils. But we don’t spend any time lobbying for farm policy changes or protesting. We put our energy towards growing tasty, nutritious food using regenerative practices and talking to our community about why we do that. Farming in a way that supports our beliefs is much more empowering - and more fun! - than pushing against the big problems in our food supply system.

We are facing some huge problems. It is frustrating and overwhelming to try to understand the issues and decide who is responsible for them and best able to fix them. The truth is, no one is going to solve the problems except ourselves. Use your precious energy to build the world you want to live in today!
