It’s a good day on Regenerative Life Farm!
It’s a good day to be a goat on RLF! Bea and Belle don’t know it yet but today we bought a trailer for what will become their mobile home. Jarrod is going to build them a house on wheels to make it easy to move and clean.
We bought the trailer from a farmer who used it for spreading fertilizer. He has several of these size trailers. Now that we have a trailer guy, we know where to go when we get ready for chickens. Our chickens will live in mobile homes too. Their homes will be called Egg Mobiles!
Last night was a good night because we had my cousin Amy to dinner. She was an excellent guest and I really enjoyed getting to know her. This restarts our Saturday night dinner tradition that we gave up for the busy summer season. It’s fun to hang out with interesting people and important for us to share the way we eat and live with people. But the best thing about the dinners for me is that I absolutely love cooking for people I care about.
We also put our farm store live today! I had a good time figuring out how to set up commerce on here. We are still figuring out our procedures with picking, listing, packing and delivery/pickup. But I hope it will be a nice addition to the CSA and markets. When we get the egg mobiles going, we will sell eggs through the farm store too!
Today I woke up at sunrise and looked out the window. A little, white goat was eating weeds in the front yard. The sunlight sparkled on her clean, white hair. Then we went trailer shopping. Then came home and I harvested Kale and Mesclun. The Kale is in the farm store. The mesclun was pretty holey (buggy) so that means it’s all for me. I need to fully commit to eating salad in the coming week.
Tonight we’re going to Firefly with my parents and Guy. Yum! I am super excited to eat yummy, fancy food at Firefly. But all I could think while I was harvesting Kale was ‘I wish I was eating at home tonight so I could have a big pile of Kale.’ It’s a sweet life!
Here is my favorite way to eat Kale. This is probably as close as I’ll get to a recipe on the blog. I see recipes as a jumping off point more than a map!
Sauteed Kale
Heat a teaspoon of coconut oil in a big saucepan
Coarsely chop a giant pile of Kale (it will shrink so more than you think you can eat)
Dump the Kale in the saucepan
Salt and Pepper to taste
Stir periodically as it turns a lovely deep green color and starts to shrink
Remove and serve when done!
